Where do I Begin?

Life hasn’t always been easy. I grew up in a small town in Louisiana. You practically knew everyone. My earliest childhood memory would have to be when I was about 2 or 3 right after my sister Heather was born. You are probably thinking how can anyone remember that long ago? I know it may seem crazy but I tend to have a really good memory. In the words of my momma, “You can remember anything. I don’t see how you can remember that far back”. Now ask me if I can remember where I put something yesterday and I probably couldn’t tell you where I put it at. But the things I do remember are what most want to hold on to…memories. Some of it good and some bad.

My parent’s moved around a lot when my sister and I were young. I went to head-start at two different schools, countless houses but we finally settled in our permanent home when I was in the first grade. Life as I knew it was simple. My parent’s worked jobs while my sister and I attended school. We had family close by and had friends over on the weekends. We were just an average family trying to make it in this crazy world.

I was my mom’s beauty queen and my dad’s tom boy. I would go from pageants to helping my dad get my go-cart ready for our weekend race at a local dirt track. Yep you read that right I was a go-cart racer. I was a fast learner (actually how I learned how to drive) and tended to intimidate the boys racing me. I acquired the nick name of “Cat Squirrel” as my daddy would call me. I had long curly hair and once my racing helmet was on and I was racing all you could see was my pony tail flying in the wind. A need for speed definitely runs in my blood.

As life was good for a childhood like any other hurt struck and changed everything.

Stay tuned and I will fill you in on my next post.
